Gun Dog Expo set Friday to Sunday
PORTLAND — Gun Dog Expo, a sportsmen’s show for hunting dog, upland bird and waterfowl hunting enthusiasts, is scheduled Friday through Sunday at the Holiday Inn-Portland Airport’s Columbia Conference Center.
Show hours are noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 6 to 12. Admission is by cash only, with no checks, debit or credit cards accepted.
Presentations on a variety of waterfowl hunting, upland bird hunting, shooting, dog trialing and more are scheduled.
Vendors will include breeders, trainers, hunting preserves and makers of specialized clothing and gear.
Active duty military members are admitted free.

Oregon bass club to meet June 28
PORTLAND — The Oregon Bass and Panfish Club will meet at 7 p.m. June 28 at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave.
Bud Hartman, founding member of the club, will present a program on fly fishing for warm-water species.
The public is welcome.
Permit hunt drawing results online
OLYMPIA – Hunters who submitted applications for special-hunt permits can check the results of this year’s drawing on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website. The results of the random, computerized drawing were verified June 8 and are now available for viewing at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/wa/specialhuntlookup.
Holders of the special permits can hunt at times and locations beyond those authorized by a general hunting license. The agency is notifying applicants about the results of the drawing by email. Successful applicants will receive their special hunt permits by mail by mid-July.
Women’s kayaking classes scheduled
SKAMOKAWA — Three days of kayak training for women is scheduled June 29 through July in Columbia River Kayaking’s “Babes in Boats” offering.
The class costs $95 for the first day, $150 for the second, $110 for the third or $300 for all three.

Bridge finished on Pinchot forest road
RANDLE — Replacement of the Benham Creek bridge on road No. 25 in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest is complete and the road will open to the public on July 2.
The bridge washed out in December 2008, but was opened with a temporary structure in summer of 2009. Snow may limit through travel on road No. 25, a key north-south route through the forest east of Mount St. Helens.

Multnomah Falls trail rerouted
HOOD RIVER, Ore. — The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area will be completing an emergency reroute for the Multnomah Falls Viewing Deck Overlook Trail #441 A. Last spring a landslide removed part of the trail to the viewing deck platform at the top of Multnomah Falls.
The CRGNSA has issued a closure order for the damaged trail to protect the public from the geologically unstable area. A new temporary trail will be completed by July 4th to allow users to access the overlook. The temporary trail will not be paved and will be suitable to hikers only. Planning for a permanent re-route of the trail will occur this fall.

Campground hosts sought
The Mount St. Helens Ranger District is recruiting for individuals or couples with a motorhome or travel trailer to volunteer as campground hosts for the 2012 summer season. The position requires camping at Lower Falls Campground on the upper North Fork Lewis River along Forest Road 90, 30 miles east of Cougar.
Volunteers would assist with visitor information, restroom cleaning and light campground maintenance. Volunteers must be present on weekends. Hosts assist the Forest Service in managing campgrounds. Hosts are provided with a free campsite and training materials. Laundry facilities are nearby. Reimbursement for propane will be provided. Weed removal at Mount St. Helens
TOUTLE — Volunteers are needed Saturday, June 30th from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to help remove invasive weeds northwest of the volcano. The project involves hand removal of scotch broom from areas near Coldwater Lake and the Mount St. Helens Science and Learning Center.
The work party, organized by the Mount St. Helens Institute, the US Forest Service and the Cowlitz County Weed Control Board, begins at 10 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m.
It will be followed by an optional tour of the Johnston Ridge Observatory led by Monument Scientist Peter Frenzen. Meet at the Coldwater Lake Picnic Area parking lot located on State Route 504 east of Castle Rock. Follow the signs to Johnston Ridge and, as you near the valley bottom, watch for the turnoff to Coldwater Lake on your left. Please bring a sack lunch, water bottle(s), work gloves, wear sturdy boots and bring a pair of pruning shears or loppers if you have them. Please come dressed for rain or shine.
