PITTSBURGH (AP) — The NHL draft is back underway, with a decidedly American flavor.
There were nine Americans taken in the second round Saturday morning, led by winger Nicolas Kerdiles. The 18-year-old from California was selected with the 36th overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks.
The Winnipeg Jets grabbed center Lukas Sutter with the 39th pick. Sutter is the son of former NHL player Rich Sutter and the cousin of new Pittsburgh center Brandon Sutter, who was traded to the Penguins on Friday night in exchange for Jordan Staal.
The Philadelphia Flyers selected goaltender Anthony Stolarz with the 45th pick, capping a nomadic journey to the NHL for the New Jersey native. Stolarz played for the Corpus Christi IceRays last season and is heading to the University of Nebraska-Omaha in the fall.
