ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tigers catcher Alex Avila is out of the starting lineup because of tendinitis in his left knee.

Avila just returned from the 15-day disabled list Thursday after recovering from a strained right hamstring.

After an MRI on Monday, Avila was scheduled to be examined by a Rangers doctor. Avila said before the series opener at Texas that he didn’t know the results of the test.

The catcher says he feels the tendinitis walking up stairs or running to back up first base. He said he started feeling pain after coming back from the DL.

Avila, an All-Star last year, says he’s had problems since his knee twisted on a throw during the second half of last season.
