Euro 2012 TV viewership up big from 4 years ago

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — The European Championships’ U.S. television viewership is up 31 percent from four years ago for the quarterfinals.

English-language coverage on ESPN of the four Euro 2012 matches averaged 1.92 million viewers, compared with 1.46 million in 2008. ESPN said Tuesday that Sunday’s Italy-England quarterfinal was watched by 2.97 million people.

Through the group stage, the average audience was up 82 percent from four years earlier.
