ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers are promoting top pitching prospect Martin (mar-TEEN’) Perez to the major leagues for the first time.

The Rangers said the left-hander will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. They did not immediately announce a corresponding roster move.

Perez is 5-5 with a 4.59 ERA in 15 starts at Round Rock, but has allowed just two runs on four hits in 16 innings in his last two starts, both wins.

The 21-year-old Venezuelan signed with the Rangers as a teenager five years ago.

Fellow Rangers rookie Justin Grimm was roughed up in his second start for Texas on Monday night. He gave up eight hits and six earned runs in one inning in an 8-2 loss to Detroit.
