HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Rockets have taken Connecticut guard Jeremy Lamb at No. 12 in the NBA draft, a pick they nabbed in a trade with Milwaukee this week.

The 6-foot-5 Lamb entered the draft after just two college seasons. He averaged 17.7 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Huskies last year and became just the sixth sophomore in Connecticut history to score 1,000 career points (1,060).

The Rockets also have the 16th and 18th picks. They’ve been maneuvering all week, trying to build a package to offer in exchange for a superstar big man, possibly Orlando’s Dwight Howard.

Houston has missed the playoffs for three straight seasons, but hasn’t slipped enough to get a favorable chance for a top-10 pick in the lottery.
