Investigators with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office determined there were no mechanical issues with the powerboat that plowed onto the beach at Wintler Park in May, injuring two people.

Boat operator Derek Dinwiddie, 35, claimed the boat ran into the shore because of mechanical problems, said sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Neiman.

The boat was impounded after the incident and examined by a marine mechanic.

“Nothing was found (to be) mechanically wrong with the boat,” Neiman said.

Dinwiddie was cited for reckless boating.
