BLAINE, Wash. (AP) — It will likely be another month before BP’s Cherry Point refinery resumes operations.
The company said Wednesday it will extend the outage caused by a Feb. 17 fire to include maintenance that had been planned later in the spring.
Spokesman Michael Abendhoff says the maintenance work will last into April.
BP had initially kept the refinery on standby after the fire while it assessed damage.
The Cherry Point refinery is the largest of five in Washington with the capacity to turn 230,000 barrels of crude oil a day into gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. It’s the third-largest refinery on the West Coast. It produces 20 percent of Washington’s gasoline needs and it supplies the majority of jet fuel for Sea-Tac, Portland and Vancouver, British Columbia, airports.
