Diggins, Barnes Arico win Big East top awards

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins has been selected as the Big East player of the year after leading the Irish to their first outright regular-season conference title.

The junior guard led No. 3 Notre Dame to a 28-2 record (15-1 Big East), averaging 17.4 points and 5.8 assists a game.

St. John’s Kim Barnes Arico earned coach of the year honors Friday after a 21-8 season that included a 13-3 record in conference play and a win at Connecticut that helped the Red Storm earn the tournament’s No. 2 seed.

UConn’s Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis was voted the Big East Freshman of the year by the league’s 16 head coaches. She averaged 14 points a game for the Huskies (26-4, 13-3).
