KENT, Wash. (AP) — Other drivers pulled over and people watched respectfully from overpasses and sidewalks Thursday as a procession of more than 100 law enforcement vehicles drove to a memorial service for slain Washington State Patrol Trooper Tony Radulescu (rad-ihl-EHS’-kyoo).
The emergency vehicles with lights flashing left the Kitsap Mall in Silverdale at 7:30 a.m. and traveled through Port Orchard to meet with other law enforcement personnel staging at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. After meeting with the family procession from the funeral home in Lakewood they’re heading to the 1 p.m. ceremony at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
Officials expect thousands to attend the memorial for Radulescu.
The 16-year veteran was shot Feb. 23 near Gorst by a driver who later took his own life. Six people have been charged with rendering criminal assistance.
