SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Texas Rangers newcomer Yu Darvish struck out Elvis Andrus and pitched a hitless inning Friday in an intrasquad game.

Darvish threw 21 pitches, 11 for strikes. His fastball was clocked between 93-96 mph.

Darvish started out with three balls to Ian Kinsler, then retired him on a fly ball with the count full. The Japanese star right-hander struck out Andrus, walked Josh Hamilton and got Adrian Beltre on a grounder.

The 25-year-old Darvish signed with Texas in the offseason. He is scheduled to start March 7 against San Diego.
