The Vancouver Police Department booked Matthew E. Starr, 19, into the Clark County Jail Saturday, in connection with the death of a Vancouver man whose body was found Friday near Vancouver Lake, past the end of Erwin O. Rieger Memorial Highway.

Police identified the victim as Joshua R. Schenk, 25, of Vancouver, according to a press release issued Saturday.

Schenk’s body was found by a passer-by late Friday morning. Vancouver Police were called in and concluded Schenk’s death was a homicide, the bulletin said. Detectives from the VPD’s Major Crimes Unit identified a suspect, Starr, who was interviewed later in the day.

Starr is being held without bail, with a first appearance set for 9 a.m. Monday, according to a jail official.
