Jonsson, Bjoergen win World Cup sprint races

LAHTI, Finland (AP) — Sweden’s Emil Jonsson won the sprint at a cross-country World Cup event in Lahti on Sunday and Norway’s Marit Bjoergen was first in the women’s race.

Jonsson and compatriot Teodor Peterson overtook Russia’s Nikita Kriukov on the final hill before entering the stadium. Jonsson finished in 3 minutes, 13.9 seconds, and beat Peterson in a photo finish. Kriukov ended third, 0.9 seconds back.

Earlier Sunday, Bjoergen beat Russia’s Julia Ivanova in a tight finish to end the women’s race in 3 minutes, 38.5 seconds. Ivanova finished only 0.2 seconds behind, while Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk ended third, 5.3 seconds back.
