Vancouver Police Department Commander Scott Bieber will become Walla Walla’s next police chief later this month.

Bieber, who has worked with the Vancouver Police Department for 27 years, will start the new job in Eastern Washington on March 26. His last day in Vancouver is March 12, but he’ll be taking vacation time through March 25, he said.

“It’s coming pretty quick,” he said.

Bieber was officially offered the job Tuesday morning after getting a conditional offer about three weeks ago.

“It’s going to be a change but I am just extremely excited for the new chapter and new opportunity over there,” he said. “I can’t tell you how excited I am.”

Bieber is currently the commander of special operations and says he has had an opportunity to run every division in the department.

“I’ve had a great opportunity and career here in Vancouver,” he said.

In Walla Walla he’ll oversee 70 employees, including 42 commissioned officers. Walla Walla is an agricultural and college town about 150 miles southwest of Spokane.

Last year, Bieber was one of five finalists for a police chief position in Richland.
