LYNNWOOD, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says the man found dead in a small lake near Lynnwood was a fugitive from the Spokane-area.

Deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers had chased the man on Feb. 26 for driving in a reckless manner. He left the car, fled on foot near Lake Stickney and got away.

The body was found floating near a dock last Wednesday in the lake. Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Prentiss said Monday he apparently drowned or died of hypothermia, although the medical examiner’s office has not released the cause of death or the man’s name.

Prentiss says he was wanted for escape from state Department of Corrections supervision.
