DONORATICO, Italy (AP) — The Greenedge team led by Australian rider Matthew Goss won a team time trial Wednesday to open the weeklong Tirreno-Adriatico race.
Greenedge clocked 18 minutes, 41 seconds over the 10.5-mile route from San Vincenzo to Donoratico, and Goss crossed first to take the overall leader’s jersey.
RadioShack, led by fourt-time trial world champion Fabian Cancellara, was second. American sprinting standout Tyler Farrar and prologue specialist David Millar led Garmin to a third-place finish. Both teams finished 17 seconds behind.
Stage two on Thursday is a 143-mile leg from San Vincenzo to Indicatore.
