Snohomish girl sentenced for attack on classmates

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A Snohomish County girl has been sentenced to more than 13 years in a combination of juvenile detention and adult prison after pleading guilty to an October attack on two classmates.

The Daily Herald reports lawyers had expected to argue Wednesday about whether the girl, who turns 16 next month, should be charged as an adult. Instead, they reached an agreement to send the teen to juvenile detention until she turns 21 and then to an adult prison for another 100 months.

The girl pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to first-degree assault and second-degree assault for the Oct. 24 attack that nearly killed April Lutz and injured Beka Staudacher, both 15.

Lutz’s family tells KOMO-TV the agreement is a fair compromise that will help a troubled girl get the help she needs, but also holds her accountable for her actions.
