Texas Southern ousts Alabama A&M from SWAC 75-62

GARLAND, Texas (AP) — Fred Sturdivant made all six shots he took, scoring 14 points, to pace Texas Southern to a 75-62 victory over Alabama A&M in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday.

D’Angelo Scott added 12 points, Omar Strong 11 and Aaron Clayborn 10 for the second-seeded Tigers (14-17), who will face third-seeded Prairie View or sixth-seeded Alcorn State in the semifinals Friday.

Dexter Ellington had six assists, and Timothy Price blocked four shots.

Demarquelle Tabb had game highs of 20 points and nine rebounds for the seventh-seeded Bulldogs (7-21), who have not advanced past the first round since winning the title in 2005. Brandon Ellis added 19 points, including three 3-pointers.

Alabama A&M went 6 of 23 from 3-point range, while Texas Southern was 1 of 7.

The Tigers shot 52 percent (26 of 50) and held a 36-26 rebounding advantage.
