Marshall outlasts Tulsa 105-100 in 3 OT

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — DeAndre Kane scored a career-high 40 points to lead Marshall to a 105-100 victory over Tulsa in triple overtime Thursday in the Conference USA tournament quarterfinals.

Kane made 15 of 32 shots for the sixth-seeded Thundering Herd (20-12) in the tournament’s first triple-overtime game. They’ll play Southern Mississippi in Friday’s semifinals.

Dago Pena’s 3-pointer with 2:20 left in the third overtime started an 11-3 Marshall run. Dennis Tinnon had six points and Kane five in the final period.

Kane also scored seven points in the final 31 seconds of the second overtime after the third-seeded Golden Hurricane (17-14) went ahead 83-79.

Shaquille Johnson added 25 points for Marshall, including 14 of 18 free throws. The teams combined to make 68 of 101 free throws, including 40 of 58 by Tulsa.

Eric McClellan scored 25 points and Steven Idlet 20 for Tulsa. Idlet also was 14 of 18 from the line.
