LONDON (AP) — The trainer of Kauto Star says the veteran steeplechaser is “back to 100 percent” after a recent injury and should compete in the Cheltenham Gold Cup next week.
Kauto Star’s participation in the celebrated British race was placed in serious doubt after the horse fell in training last week. But trainer Paul Nicholls says Saturday the horse has recovered well.
He notes, “the improvement from one Friday to the following was just absolutely unbelievable.”
He watched the horse gallop on Friday and was confident the horse would improve in the week before the race.
Kauto Star, who won the Gold Cup in 2007 and ’09, is set to renew his rivalry with defending champion Long Run.
