PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz made his spring training debut on Friday, allowing a solo home run in an inning during Arizona’s 8-5 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Five players homered for the Diamondbacks at Peoria Sports Complex: Chris Young, Ryan Roberts, Aaron Hill and Rusty Ryal for Arizona and Carlos Peguero for the Mariners.

Mariners left-hander Jason Vargas, who is slated to be their No. 2 starter, allowed five runs in four innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Roberts hit a three-run home run — his third of the spring — off Vargas in the fourth inning. Hill hit a solo home run off Vargas in the first.

Peguero hit his third home run of the spring, a solo shot off Putz in the fourth. Young also hit a solo home run, his second of the spring.
