Roenning wins 50K World Cup classic race in Norway

OSLO, Norway (AP) — Norway’s Eldar Roenning has won the cross-country classical-style race, edging Swiss leader Dario Cologna by 0.6 seconds in the World Cup meet.

The 29-year old Roenning finished the 50-kilometer race in 2 hours, 32 minutes, 27.1 seconds on Saturday.

“This is big, a dream has come true,” Roenning said.

Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway, who led the pack on the final stretch at the Holmenkollen ski stadium, was 5.8 seconds back in third.
