South Korea dominates 1,000 at world short track

SHANGHAI (AP) — South Korean speedskaters dominated the 1,000-meter finals Sunday in the world short track championships.

Kwak Yoon-gy won the men’s final in a time of 1 minute, 27.772 seconds. His teammate, Noh Jink-yu, who finished ahead of Kwak to win the 1,500 meters on Friday, had a second-place time of 1:34.463, followed by Canada’s Charles Hamelin in 1:55.181.

In the women’s 1,000, Cho Ha-ri of South Korea won in 1:31.283. Li Jianrou of China, the winner Friday in the 1,500, was second in 1:31.325, followed by Valerie Maltais of Canada in 1:31.350 and Britain’s Elise Christie in 1:32.518.

Finals were to be held later Sunday in the individual men’s and women’s 3,000 and relays over 3,000 for women and 5,000 for men.
