Cubs agree with Cuban LHP Concepcion

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — The Chicago Cubs and Cuban left-hander Gerardo Concepcion have agreed to a five-year major league contract.

The 20-year-old Concepcion will report to the team’s minor league camp in Arizona. Concepcion earned Cuban National Series Rookie of the Year honors last season after going 10-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 21 games, including 16 starts, for the Industriales.

In the previous season, Concepcion pitched for Havana in the Cuban Junior National Tournament, going 2-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 15 appearances, six as a starter.
