SEATTLE (AP) — State transportation officials have closed a portion of U.S. Highway 97 because of a large dust storm.

The Washington State Department of Transportation says in a release that the highway is closed from near milepost 56 to milepost 60, south of Toppenish.

Southbound traffic is being diverted to state roads, but northbound vehicles are being routed onto local roads.

Officials do not know when the stretch of the highway will be reopened.
