SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — The Syracuse Orange, regular-season champions of the Big East and a Top 5 staple all season long, were given a No. 1 seed in the East Region of the NCAA tournament on Sunday.

The Orange, 31-2 after losing to Cincinnati in the Big East Conference tournament at Madison Square Garden, will take on UNC Asheville (24-9) on Thursday in Pittsburgh.

The Bulldogs won the Big South Conference tournament title, and will make just their third NCAA appearance. Asheville received bids in 2006 and 2011, as well. Last season, the Bulldogs were also a No. 16 seed, and also took on a Big East team, losing to Pittsburgh.
