PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Dallas-bound American Airlines flight returned to the Portland, Ore., airport 25 minutes after takeoff early Tuesday morning.

KGW-TV reports (http://bit.ly/AdMncV ) the flight experienced an engine compressor problem.

Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson says the flight departed at 6 a.m. and returned to the gate at 6:25 a.m., surrounded by airport crash trucks.

The plane, an MD 80, taxied back to the tarmac under its own power.
