CASTLE ROCK, Wash. (AP) — A man has been struck and killed by a train on the railroad bridge across the Toutle River near Castle Rock.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe says the man was trespassing on the bridge just before 9 a.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a southbound freight train.

KLOG reports emergency responders found the body, and the Cowlitz County sheriff’s office is investigating.

BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas (mel-OWN’-us) says the track was reopened before 11 a.m., after delaying eight freight and Amtrak trains.

The railroad bridge is visible from the Interstate 5 bridge over the Toutle River.
