ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — It’s one thing to be the Harvard of the South. It’s another thing to be Harvard.

Although there’s hardly time this week to break down the subtle and not-so-subtle differences in the classrooms at Vanderbilt and that other school, the gap — if there is one — between top SEC and top Ivy League basketball talent will be on display Thursday in a second-round East regional game.

In a meeting between two schools whose academic reputations outshine what they do on the court, fifth-seeded Vanderbilt, coming off its upset over top-ranked Kentucky, meets 12th-seeded Harvard, which is in the tournament for the first time since 1946.

Vandy is led by John Jenkins, who averages almost 20 points a game. Harvard’s leading scorer is Kyle Casey, at 11.3 points a game.
