PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Columbia Sportswear Co. blames a mild winter for a low sales forecast that led to 80 layoffs at the company on Wednesday morning.
The layoffs will primarily come from the company’s Washington County headquarters and in Europe.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/xZSM17 ) the company forecasts low single-digit sales because of a warmer-than-usual winter.
The company says such weather usually precedes low sales the following winter.
Columbia CEO Tim Boyle and his mother, Gert, have each taken a 50 percent pay cut as a result.
