LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Former Olympic sprinter Frank Fredericks of Zimbabwe and former badminton world champion Li Lingwei of China have been nominated as members of the International Olympic Committee.

Fredericks, a silver medalist in the 100 and 200 meters at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, has served as an athlete member on the IOC since 2004. His eight-year term expires this year, and he has been put forward as a full individual member.

Li was a three-time world champion in badminton in the 1980s.

Also nominated Wednesday were the heads of three national Olympic committees — Takeda Tsunekazu of Japan, Aisha Garad Ali of Djibouti and Pierre-Olivier Beckers of Belgium.

The five candidates will come up for formal election at the IOC meeting in London on July 26.
