SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Separate reports of an attempted child abduction and a child luring at Spokane have many parents on edge.

A Spokane Valley woman told officers she was looking out a window on Wednesday, watching her two children play in the back yard when she saw a man reach over the fence and try to pick up her 4-year-old son. The man ran off when she confronted him.

Also on Wednesday a Spokane woman told police she was at a bookstore in Northtown Mall with her 9-year-old daughter. They were separated when a man came up to the girl and asked if she wanted to go to the restroom with him.

The girl told her mother who called police. The man had fled.
