Coast Guard rescues 3 stranded after raft capsizes

POWERS, Ore. (AP) — The Coast Guard has rescued three people who were stranded on an island in southern Oregon’s Coquille (Ko-KEEL) River after their raft capsized during a boating trip.

They were able to swim to the island without injury on Wednesday.

A helicopter crew from the Coast Guard station at North Bend, Ore., was nearby and diverted to hoist the unidentified trio aboard. They were taken to the Coos County sheriff’s office.
