POWERS, Ore. (AP) — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter searching for a missing family instead stumbled on a trio of boaters whose morning excursion turned dangerous when their boat capsized.

The Coos Bay World reports (http://bit.ly/zUjj7G ) the men were able to swim out of the Coquille River early Wednesday and reach a small island, leaving them trapped.

The helicopter spotted them and authorities determined that an air rescue was the men’s only option.

The missing family was also found later on Wednesday.
