Letter: Plan C: lead by cooperation

The Columbian
Published: March 14, 2012, 5:00pm

In a March 11 column, George Will called for a “Plan B to stop Obama,” which was having Republicans take control of the Senate (something they already seem to have done). I have a couple of questions for Will.

Stop Obama from what?

Stop him from not racing into another Middle East war?

Stop him from trying to get some kind of health care reform so that my children won’t have to resort to emergency rooms once they’re 25 and off my policy?

Stop him from reworking the tax code to slow down the attack on the middle class, while the rich pile up more and more of the nation’s wealth and power?

My other question to Will, and the other fire-breathing conservatives, is how about a “Plan C” for cooperation? A plan that doesn’t demand to have everything your way? A plan to use cooperation for fusing the best ideas into legislation that benefits and protects everyone?

Will’s plan is to stop the president from “socializing” our country, to make it like one of those horrible “European” countries. Can he point to a single shred of evidence that in the past decade this country has not instead moved even further from socialism, rushing toward a system where the middle class disappears and the rich have total control?
