OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington health officials say the flu season has finally arrived in the state.
Influenza usually peaks in February in Washington, so it’s a little later than usual this year.
Health Secretary Mary Selecky says it’s not too late to be vaccinated.
To avoid spreading the flu, people should wash their hands, cover their cough and stay home if they’re sick.
Health officials say the flu season is gaining momentum at a time when whooping cough is already very active. They are recommending teens and adults get a whooping cough booster to help stop the spread of the disease and to protect babies. Everyone can get whooping cough but it’s most serious for infants.
