Verlander strikes out 8, Tigers beat Orioles

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Justin Verlander struck out eight in 3 2-3 innings and the Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 Thursday.

Verlander gave up one run and three hits. The AL MVP and Cy Young winner has an 0.93 ERA this spring.

Brian Matusz had his second straight solid outing for Baltimore, striking out six in four scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and walked none.

Matusz went 1-9 with a 10.69 ERA in 12 starts for the Orioles last season.
