NEW YORK (AP) — Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan has been fined $2,500 by the NHL on Friday for boarding Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano during a game.

The fine, the maximum allowed under the league’s collective bargaining agreement, was a result of Doan’s actions at 7:49 of the first period of Phoenix’s 4-1 loss Thursday night at Calgary. Doan was assessed a minor penalty for boarding on the play.

The money collected for the fine goes to the NHL’s players’ emergency assistance fund.
