TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A 70-year-old Olympia, Wash., man who admitted to selling a gun later used to kill a Seattle police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for other, unrelated illegal firearm sales.
The U.S. attorney’s office said David Devenny was sentenced Monday in federal court in Tacoma for unlawful dealing in firearms and two counts of selling guns to people who weren’t allowed to have them.
None of the charges directly related to the slaying of Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton on Oct. 31, 2009. Federal officials said that as part of the investigation into that shooting, Devenny told an undercover agent he sold the gun used in the killing.
U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan said Monday that Devenny “lined his pockets by funneling guns to criminals.”
