SAO PAULO (AP) — A doctor treating Joao Havelange says the former FIFA president and IOC member is fighting a grave bacterial infection and remains in serious condition.

Doctor Joao Mansur Filho said in a statement on Tuesday that Havelange’s health requires close attention.

He said the 95-year-old Brazilian was diagnosed with septic arthritis, an infection which affects joints. He said Havelange’s right ankle is affected the most.

Havelange was admitted to Samaritano Hospital in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
