LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California receiver Robert Woods will skip the rest of spring practice while recovering from offseason surgery on his right ankle.

Coach Lane Kiffin announced the precautionary move for his All-American receiver on Tuesday. Woods has done only basic warmup drills so far in spring practice.

Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his ankle in December after getting hurt playing pickup basketball before his sophomore season.

The ankle injury and a nagging shoulder problem didn’t stop Woods from having the best season for a receiver in USC history. He caught 111 passes for 1,292 yards and 15 touchdowns while breaking Keyshawn Johnson’s conference record for receptions.

Woods was the only unanimous selection to the Pac-12’s all-conference team, and a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top receiver.
