SEATTLE (AP) — It’s one dam down and one to go on the Elwha River.

The Seattle Times reports (http://is.gd/1chOJ5 ) workers last week finished removing the Elwha Dam, which was about five miles from the river’s mouth. Work continues at the taller Glines Canyon Dam, eight miles farther upriver.

The dams are being removed in a $325 million project to restore salmon runs to the river. Most of its watershed is protected in Olympic National Park.

Demolition work began last year and will continue next year.
