Some 28 percent of workers in port-related jobs generated by the Port of Portland live in Clark County, according to a new economic analysis released Wednesday by the port. Another 39 percent live in Oregon’s Multnomah County, and the rest are scattered between Clackamas and Washington counties in Oregon, Skamania County, and other regional locations, the port said.

Those percentages are based on the study’s calculation that the port generates some 14,000 direct jobs in port-related activities. Using a broader standard, the analysis found that nearly 26,600 area residents work in port-related jobs or in jobs indirectly related to, or induced by, port activities. Those workers include airline personnel, longshore workers, distribution and warehouse employees, truck drivers, railroad employees, river and bar pilots, and rental car company workers.

About 17,500 of those jobs were in aviation-related activities at Portland International, Hillsboro and Troutdale airports. Port marine operations at its four terminals generated more than 9,000 jobs, according to the report.
