Assistant city engineer Mark Herceg received Battle Ground’s 2011 Employee of the Year this week for his role in overseeing development on road improvement projects at North Parkway, Southwest Scotton Way and Southeast Grace Avenue, city officials said.

City Manager John Williams lauded Herceg for his ability to “effectively lead the city’s Engineering Department,” according to a city news release. Williams presented Herceg with his award during Monday’s council meeting. The engineer won the honor over eight other city employees who were nominated.

Herceg joined the city of Battle Ground’s staff in 2003. Five years later, he earned a promotion to assistant city engineer.
