SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have officially added a player who helped deny them a trip to the Super Bowl, reaching a two-year deal with wide receiver Mario Manningham.
The team announced the deal on Thursday, five days after Manningham’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said the sides agreed to terms.
Manningham was a postseason star for the New York Giants. He caught three TD passes, including a 17-yarder in the fourth quarter of New York’s 20-17 overtime win over San Francisco in the NFC title game.
He then keyed the winning 88-yard drive in the Super Bowl win over New England with an over-the-shoulder 38-yard catch between two defenders on which he managed to stay inbounds.
Manningham had 39 catches for 523 yards and four touchdowns in the regular season.
