SEATTLE (AP) — Woodland Park Zoo officials in Seattle say a 16-year-old male zebra has been euthanized after being found unable to stand and suffering apparent seizures.
Although the zoo’s animal health team responded Friday, the convulsions continued. The zoo says the zebra named Furahi (fer-AW-hee) had been under long-term veterinary care for a chronic medical condition.
Dr. Darin Collins says a necropsy is planned. The zebra was born at Woodland Park.
The death leaves the zoo with one zebra, a 9-year-old female.
Zebras can live 20 to 30 years in the wild and as long as 40 years in zoos.
