National group recognizes community foundation

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington has been recertified as meeting the nation’s highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability.

The Council on Foundations, a national professional association, created 41 national standards for community foundations. Of the more than 700 such grantmaking operations nationwide, just more than 200 have been confirmed as in compliance.

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington was one of the first in the state to earn the National Standards Seal in 2006, and has continued to do so every year since.

Established in 1984, the Community Foundation is a tax-exempt charity that supervises more than 270 distinct funds, ranging in size from $10,000 to nearly $6 million. The funds are pooled, managed and invested to generate growth for grants that support local nonprofit organizations other community benefits.
