HEERENVEEN, Netherlands (AP) — Olympic champions Mo Tae-bum and Lee Sang-hwa of South Korea won the 500-meter titles at the speedskating single distance world championships Sunday.

Tae-bum took the men’s crown at the season-ending event, clocking a combined 69.64 seconds over the two races to edge Dutchman Michel Mulder by 0.01 seconds.

Pekka Koskela of Finland earned the bronze.

In the women’s event, Sang-hwa took top spot on the podium by winning both heats in a combined time of 76.12 to beat world sprint champion Jing Yu of China by 0.43.

Local favorite Thijsje Oenema became only the third Dutch woman to pick up a medal in the 500 at the single distance worlds after finishing third. Marianne Timmer (1999) and Annette Gerritsen (2008) are the only previous Dutch winners.
