SEATTLE (AP) — A King County Jail officer says a 41-year-old Seattle inmate who was found in medical distress in her cell has died in a Seattle hospital.

Cmdr. William Hayes said Wednesday that the unidentified woman was booked into jail on March 20 for investigation of felony domestic violence assault. On the morning of March 23, an officer found her in medical distress and she was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

Hayes says the woman died Monday evening at Harborview.

The county medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Hayes says the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention is working with the local public health agency on an internal investigation, as is standard practice in all jail-related deaths.
