ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Maine’s Spencer Abbott, Jack Connolly of Minnesota-Duluth and Colgate’s Austin Smith are the finalists for this year’s Hobey Baker award.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award Foundation identified the three seniors Thursday from a list of 10 candidates for the award honoring college hockey’s best player.
Abbott leads the nation in scoring and assists, with 21 goals and 41 assists. He has signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Connolly won the WCHA scoring title and was the league’s player of the year. He scored 20 goals and had 40 assists for the Bulldogs. Smith scored 36 goals and had 21 assists to win the ECAC scoring title. The conference’s player of the year is a fifth-round draft pick of Dallas.
This year’s Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced April 6 in Tampa, Fla., during the NCAA Frozen Four.
